Since the COVID-19 pandemic, working from home has become the new normal. According to Statista, 38 percent of people aged between 30 and 49 were working from home as of February 2022. Subsequently, there’s been a massive rise in demand for home offices, as people find comfortable, effective ways of home working for the long term.
Home offices or garden offices provide a balance between work and home life. A separate space to suit your working needs, just a few steps from home. At Coastal Garden Buildings, we design and install a range of home offices to suit individual styles and spaces.

Do I need planning permission for a home office?
Generally, no. A standard garden building under 2.5m high is unlikely to need planning permission. It’s always best to check with your local authority, just in case.
What about home office furniture?
Once your home office building is in place, you’ll need to think about furniture. A corner desk can maximise space, or do you fancy trying a standing desk? Many options are available for the best home office desk to suit your space and working style. The right chair is essential to maintain good posture. Don’t forget to think about office storage too, particularly if you plan to use the space for relaxing, as well as working. Find out more about productivity when working from home in our blog.
Add value to your home with a garden office
A home office could add value to your property if you think about the long term. It could also function as a dual-purpose space, such as a home gym. Either by zoning areas or going for a slightly bigger space, you can create a building that helps you not just work from home but also exercise, relax or entertain by creating your own slice of outdoor living.
